August 3, 2020
Dear Parents and Students,
We have been busy planning for the opening of the 2020-2021 school year, taking into consideration distancing, disinfection, cleanliness, technology, wellness and gatherings. Our plans will allow us to bring all students back on-site to St. John-Sacred Heart School and provide for virtual learning in the event of illness, quarantine or closure. Please review the highlights and details of our plans and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
All students will return to our physical building and to their assigned classrooms. Full-day 4K – 8th grade students will meet Monday- Friday from 7:25–2:50. 3K students will meet Tuesday-Thursday from 7:25-11:30.
Students should arrive to school between 7:25-7:30 wearing their mask. All drivers should enter parish grounds using the Clifton Road driveway, proceeding along the front of the school building, stopping @ door #1 (grades 1-8) and door #3 (3K, 4K and 5K) for drop off and pick up and exiting the south driveway (on the side of Fr. Mike’s house). Bussed students will unload the bus one student at a time.
Students will be dismissed by family in a staggered format:
Extended care students will meet Mrs. Joas
Hilbert bus students will board the bus one student at a time – siblings sitting together & wearing masks
Kaukauna bus students will board bus one student at a time wearing masks
Students being picked up will be dismissed one at a time
Staff temperatures will be taken daily upon reporting to school and documented. Parents are asked to take their child’s temperature daily before leaving for school. Staff or students having a fever or feeling ill should stay home. For the safety and health of all, this policy will be strictly enforced.
Students and staff will wash and sanitize their hands throughout the day. Teachers will give squirts of sanitizer to students each time they enter the classroom. 3K-2nd grade classrooms have sinks for hand washing. Grades 3-8 will wash their hands in the bathrooms and art room.
All surfaces will be disinfected daily: desks, door knobs, railings, counters, etc. by hand and with a sanitizing machine.
All staff will wear masks at all times. Students (5yr. and up) will also wear masks as mandated by the Governor Evers (until September 28).
Throughout the building and outdoors, there will be visual signs to remind students of distancing. Desks/workspaces/lunchroom seating, etc. will be six feet apart.
Traffic in hallways will be one-way.
Supplies/Textbooks All students will have individual supplies and textbooks.
All students (3K-8) will be assigned a technology device for instructional learning to be used at school and home if needed in the event of illness or school closure.
All students will learn and use a learning platform daily for instruction enabling a smooth transition from the classroom to online: SeeSaw – Grades 3K-2nd and Google Classroom - Grades 3-8.
In the event of school closure, students will do online learning directed by our teachers. A sample daily schedule is part of this communication.
We love and appreciate volunteers but at this time, for the safety and health of our school family, we must limit access to our school. If approval is given to volunteer during school hours, only the adult may come – younger children may not come along.
Visitors will not be allowed during the school day.
Field trips will be on hold until further notice.
Please know some details of our plans may need to be adjusted as we learn new information. We will keep you updated. Please keep us in your prayers as we pray for you.
Pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 115.28 (54m), our school is required to notify and provide the educational options available to all students who are at least three years old, but not yet 18 years old. Click here to see educational options represented for Wisconsin students.
